Ray Bradbury never drove?

My mother e-mailed me today and said that one of my high school English teachers told my little brother that Ray Bradbury never drove: he rode his bike. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is true, and can give me more information (did he get his license later? did he have a license and just preferred to bike?) on this. Thanks!

I don't know if it is true or not, but I'm kind of hoping it is true. I'm wondering if there's some kind of relation between writing and not driving. Three of my five favourite authors do not have their licenses, and the fourth admits he drives so poorly he shouldn't be trusted to drive in the first place. Makes me feel a little better about being too scared to get mine!

!! I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I'm 20 and don't have my license and I'm getting so tired of people being amazed, or even frightened, that I can't drive. It's just that I've never needed to, and now, I still don't need to. Plus I actually enjoy walking... and if it were true it would give me something to retort back to people who treat me badly for not driving.

I'll be 22 next month and I've driven twice, both times last summer for about 5 minutes each in an empty mall parking lot. It just seems like such a boring thing to do, plus I'd get stuck paying back all those free rides my friends have been giving me all along!;) If anyone gives you any attitude, you can always tell them that Sarah Vowell, David Sedaris and David Rakoff don't drive!
The costs of buying a car, insurance and gas is just way too high now. I can't afford school and getting a car, but the bus goes past most of the places I go to anyway, so there's no real motivation for me.

This seems to verify the claim... interesting indeed.
